Abstract

This study reveals the potential substitution of silica fume and eggshell ash in the technique of soil stabilization, varying across distinct proportions in the modification of geotechnical parameters. The untreated kaolinitic soil which has low soil bearing capacity in nature is frequently reflected in its mechanical instability, for instance, soil settlement and extreme compressibility. By associating the industrial and agricultural material, it is potentially to resolve the above-mentioned issues with explicit designs. A number of laboratory approaches have been implemented in the assessment of basic geotechnical properties, including grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, proctor properties, and shear strength parameters. It was stabilized at its ideal silica fume content (7%) to yield the highest strength and was modified with 3 distinct eggshell ash proportions (6%–10%). The soil was molded in cylindrical shape, with dimensions of 76 mm height and 38 mm diameter, and underwent curing for 7 and 14 days. The discoveries reveal that associating silica fume and eggshell ash significantly rectifies the soil's properties in terms of plasticity, particle size, maximum dry density, and optimum moisture content. Referring to shear strength data, it is noticed that the extensive curing duration to 14 days bridges the particle bonding, leading to pore refinement as expressed in the rate of improvement, ranging from 133.04% to 176.61%. The data accuracy is verified by the use of the correlation technique, where all the coefficients of determination, R2, are greater than 0.9. Conclusively, these results confirm that substituting secondary raw materials can treat the kaolin effectively, which prevents the further exploitation of natural resources in civil engineering applications. The outcomes also suggest practicability and applicability in foundation improvement, providing a sustainable alternative for green infrastructure development, particularly in resource-constrained regions.
